Contemplative Prayer is to be "learned" by going through a long process.

As every interpersonal relationship needs long time to grow, Contemplative Prayer, being the deepest intimacy with the unfathomable God, necessitates a long process of "training". The six month’s prayer schedule given to you is a reminder of this long process. All those who make a commitment to attend all the sessions with all the seriousness will certainly receive from the Lord the gift of Contemplation.

It is to be noted that these sessions are more of preparing our personality for the divine intimacy than learning the method of Contemplative Prayer. Since Contemplative Prayer is purely a gift from God it can’t be "learned". It is to be received. But in order to receive this gift, we need to become worthy for this great gift. Through the coming Prayer Sessions, we humbly allow the Almighty to transform us in a manner worthy to become contemplative.

Therefore, attending all the sessions with the total openness to the Holy Spirit is very important. There will be some prejudices or misunderstanding about the various forms of prayer. Sometimes we may feel uncomfortable with some kinds of prayer, for example, praising God loudly or praising God in "Tongues". Please don’t make a hasty decision to discontinue. Have patience to see how things turn out later. The things that feel uncomfortable now may later become meaningful when we allow the Spirit to make us know more about them. To ignore or despise those things which seem to us uncomfortable and unintelligible may be rejecting the Holy Spirit who does mysterious things. Hence St. Paul admonishes: "Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise Prophetic utterances. Test everything; retain what is good." (1 Thess. 5:19-20). I guarantee that all those who endure till the end will have a tremendous experience of the Divine.
